Rifugio Stella Alpina Spiz Piaz, Mountain shelter at Conca del Gardeccia, Italy
Rifugio Stella Alpina Spiz Piaz sits at 1960 meters elevation near the Catinaccio mountains and offers accommodation for around 50 guests in private rooms and dormitories. The shelter provides basic mountain facilities and a kitchen where meals are prepared for visitors throughout their stay.
The building originated in the late 19th century as a barn with a hayloft for mountain farmers. A major reconstruction in 2011 transformed it into the shelter that visitors find today.
The owners prepare traditional Ladin specialties and homemade desserts that reflect the local mountain heritage. Meals here bring together regional recipes with contemporary touches that visitors experience as part of their stay.
Summer access is available via shuttle services from Pera di Fassa or by cable car to Ciampedie followed by trail 540. Plan your visit with mountain weather in mind, as conditions change frequently at this elevation.
The shelter serves as a base for hikes leading to the Vajolet Towers, Coronelle, Mugoni, and the Ciampedie plateau throughout different seasons. Each route offers distinct views depending on the time of year and snow conditions.
