Vajolet refuge, Mountain refuge in Vigo di Fassa, Italy
Vajolet refuge is a mountain shelter located at 2243 meters below the Vajolet Towers. It provides lodging and meals for hikers and climbers exploring the surrounding peaks and rock formations.
The structure was built in 1897 by the Leipzig section of the German-Austrian Alpine Club and expanded in 1902 and 1906. These additions established it as a basepoint for mountaineers exploring this region.
The refuge serves dishes rooted in Val di Fassa traditions, such as casunziei and local cheese varieties. The kitchen adapts its offerings to accommodate different dietary preferences while keeping these regional recipes as its foundation.
Access is via cable car from Vigo di Fassa to Ciampedie, then a marked trail of roughly 90 minutes leads to the shelter. Weather changes quickly at this elevation, so appropriate gear and footwear are essential.
The shelter offers direct access to climbing routes with varying difficulty levels, including the east face of Catinaccio. This range makes it a destination for climbers at different skill levels.
