Doric temple, Roman temple in Pompeii, Italy.
The Doric temple is an ancient sanctuary in Pompeii with a columned structure arranged in a rectangular layout. Seven columns mark each of the shorter ends while eleven columns line each of the longer sides.
This structure was built in the 6th century BC using stone from the Sarno valley and underwent several changes over time. These alterations show how the temple adapted to the changing needs of the city.
This place served as a center for worship where residents came to honor their gods through ceremonies and prayers. The spiritual role it played shaped how people in this ancient city understood their relationship with the divine.
The temple is located in Regio VIII Insula 7 of the archaeological site and is accessible on foot. When visiting, allow time to study the column details and the altars positioned at the entrance.
