Doric temple, Roman temple in Pompeii, Italy.
The Doric temple features seven limestone columns along its shorter sides and eleven columns along the longer sides, forming a rectangular structure.
Built in the sixth century BC using materials from the Sarno valley, this temple underwent several modifications before Pompeii's destruction.
The temple served dual religious purposes, initially dedicated to Hercules and later incorporating worship ceremonies for the goddess Minerva.
The temple remains stand in Regio VIII Insula 7 of Pompeii's archaeological site, with three tuff-stone altars visible at the entrance.
A semicircular tuff-stone seat at the rear of the temple provides direct views across the Gulf of Naples.
