Torre di Bebe, Medieval defensive tower in Chioggia, Italy.

Torre di Bebe is a medieval brick fortification standing along the Gorzone canal in Chioggia, positioned south of Ca' Pasqua. The structure contains multiple layers of archaeological remains that provide evidence of habitation and activity spanning several centuries.

The tower was built between 742 and 745 under Doge Deusdedit as a military outpost to protect Venice's southern frontier. Later evidence shows it also functioned as a customs station and residence for senior military officers.

The tower served as a home and workplace across centuries for people managing trade and defense. Artifacts discovered here tell the story of daily routines and interactions with the canals and waterways that defined life in medieval Chioggia.

The site is accessible through archaeological excavations that reveal details about medieval military and commercial activities. Visitors should expect uneven ground and proximity to water, so sturdy footwear and careful movement are advisable.

Coins and ducal seals discovered during excavations suggest that senior officials made their home and worked at this location. Such findings are unusual for a fortress and reveal a more complex role than simply a military outpost.
