Palazzo Aldrovandi, Rococo palace in Bologna, Italy
The red brick and white Istria stone facade of Palazzo Aldrovandi extends along Via Galliera, presenting intricate decorative motifs and curvilinear elements.
Construction of Palazzo Aldrovandi began in 1725 under Francesco Maria Angelini and was completed in 1752 by Alfonso Torreggiani for Cardinal Pompeo Aldrovandi.
The interior rooms contain frescoes by Vittorio Maria Bigari and Stefano Orlandi depicting narratives of the Aldrovandi family, who were influential Bologna senators.
The palace stands at Via Galliera 8, near the center of Bologna, and previously housed sections of the municipal library and cinema archive.
The marble busts and reliefs that once adorned the palace interiors now form part of the collection at the British Museum in London.
