Construction of Palazzo Boncompagni began in 1537 under Cristoforo Boncompagni and became residence of Pope Gregory XIII before his papal election in 1572.
The Pope's Hall within the palace served as an official audience chamber when the Bolognese Pontiff returned to his hometown.
