South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History

The South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History occupies twenty different levels within Tyrol Castle, presenting regional artifacts and cultural exhibits.

The museum building, originally constructed in the 12th century as the residence of the Counts of Tyrol, maintains its medieval architectural elements.

The Lower Chapel contains a crucifixion scene from 1330, while the Upper Chapel houses the oldest winged altar in the Alpine region from 1370.

Visitors reach the museum through a 30-minute walk on the Castle Path from Tirolo village, passing by natural formations known as Earth Pyramids.

The museum received 74,117 visitors in 2018, displaying 300 artifacts across 4,000 square meters of exhibition space dedicated to South Tyrolean heritage.
