House of the wooden partition, Ancient Roman domus in Ercolano, Italy.
The House of the Wooden Partition features a large wooden wall divided into three sections, with bronze studs used for mounting lamps throughout the structure.
The house remained preserved under 20 meters of volcanic mud following Mount Vesuvius's eruption in 79 AD until excavations revealed it in the 20th century.
The dwelling contains an atrium decorated with theater-themed wall frescoes and white mosaic tiles, reflecting Roman domestic architectural preferences.
The house is located in insula III near the central baths of Herculaneum, making it easily accessible within the archaeological site's layout.
The structure maintains its original wooden partition wall separating the atrium from the tablinum, an exceptional preservation of ancient Roman carpentry.
