Castello di Arzignano

Castello di Arzignano is a medieval fortification sitting on San Matteo hill, equipped with defensive walls, towers, and gates arranged as a complete military complex. The structures are positioned to take advantage of the terrain, creating multiple levels and defensive positions throughout the site.

The fortress was built in the 15th century and became significant in 1413 when it sheltered residents during an attack by Hungarian forces. This event became a defining moment in the castle's local history and meaning.

The castle hosts annual celebrations where locals gather for wine tastings, craft markets, and regional food traditions specific to the Veneto area. Residents use the fortress as a focal point for community events and cultural gatherings throughout the seasons.

Access to the castle involves walking uphill on footpaths from the town center, which takes several minutes on foot. Wearing sturdy shoes is helpful, as the path is uneven and slopes steeply in places.

On the anniversary of liberation from the siege, the municipality presents an offering at the castle in a solemn ceremony. This yearly ritual keeps alive a memory from nearly 600 years ago through local custom.
