Museo e Rifugi S.M.I. di Campo Tizzoro

The Museo e Rifugi S.M.I. di Campo Tizzoro is an industrial archaeology museum in San Marcello Piteglio displaying artifacts, equipment, and documents from metalworking operations. Much of the facility consists of underground chambers that served various purposes over time.

The Italian Metallurgical Society established this facility in 1911 as a major production center. The site later became significant during armed conflicts, which prompted the construction of the extensive underground structures.

The museum tells the story of metalworking and the lives of people who worked here during the industrial era. Visitors can see how daily routines, skills, and production methods shaped the community for generations.
