Meloria south end Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Ligurian Sea, Italy

Meloria south end Lighthouse is a cylindrical tower standing on a rocky shoal in the Ligurian Sea off the coast of Livorno. The structure features a distinctive two-tone pattern with a yellow upper section and black lower section to help ships navigate safely through these shallow waters.

The current tower was built in 1950 to replace an earlier metal structure that had been guiding ships since 1867. This replacement demonstrates the ongoing importance of maintaining a light signal at this dangerous location throughout the centuries.

The lighthouse forms part of the maritime navigation network maintained by Marina Militare, supporting safe passage along the Italian western coastline.

The lighthouse operates entirely on solar power, which provides independent energy for its lighting system throughout the day and night. Since it stands on an isolated rocky shoal, the structure can only be reached by boat.

The lighthouse produces a distinctive flash pattern of six quick bursts followed by one longer flash every ten seconds, which helps ships identify this specific beacon. This characteristic rhythm allows navigators to distinguish this light from other beacons along the coast.
