Palazzo della Prefettura

Palazzo della Prefettura is a baroque administrative building in central Turin featuring three floors arranged with perfect symmetry. The facades display elaborate stonework, tall windows, and ornamental details that showcase the craftsmanship and design standards of the period.

The palace was originally built as a residence for regional rulers under the House of Savoy's authority. Over time it transformed into an administrative center and has maintained this governmental function to the present day.

This building became a center of administrative authority and governmental decision-making for the region over centuries. Today, the public areas showcase the material wealth and organizational importance that the state wanted to project through its appearance.

The building is located in the old city center and is easily reached on foot from major squares and landmarks. Note that access to certain interior spaces may be restricted, particularly during official government business or state events.

Architect Filippo Juvarra blended theatrical design principles with architecture to create interior spaces with carefully calculated lighting effects. This fusion of stage techniques with building design gives the rooms an unusually expressive and dynamic quality.
