Royal Palace of Turin, Royal museum in Turin, Italy
The Royal Palace of Turin is a large royal museum with ornate state rooms, art collections, and an armory spread across multiple decorated floors. The rooms are furnished with valuable furniture, paintings, and baroque decorations.
The palace construction began in 1584 when Duke Carlo Emanuele I hired architect Ascanio Vitozzi to design a new residence for the Savoy dynasty. The building was expanded and modified over centuries to display the power and wealth of the ruling family.
The Royal Armory displays one of Europe's largest collections of weapons and armor from multiple centuries. You can see how these objects reflect the military power and wealth of the Savoy dynasty.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with multiple entrances located in different areas of the palace. Wear comfortable shoes since there are many stairs and long hallways to navigate.
The Scala delle Forbici is an unusual staircase with an innovative scissor-shaped design that allowed horses to climb to the upper floors of the palace. This architectural solution shows the ingenuity of the baroque builders.
