Royal Armoury of Turin, Historic arms museum in Turin, Italy.
The Royal Armoury of Turin is a specialised museum in the Italian city housing an extensive collection of military equipment spanning different European historical periods. The holdings range from shields and helmets to swords and firearms, all carefully displayed within the elegant rooms of the Galleria Beaumont.
King Charles Albert of Sardinia founded the Royal Armoury in 1837 as part of the Musei Reali di Torino complex and opened it to the public. Over time, the collection expanded through significant acquisitions and donations from various princely collections.
The Galleria Beaumont houses the collection and features decorative paintings depicting scenes from the Aeneid along with works by court painter Claudio Francesco Beaumont. This artistic setting transforms the space into more than a weapons museum, connecting art history with military heritage.
The museum is fully accessible with wheelchair ramps and facilities for visitors with reduced mobility. Specialised guided tours and educational programs help visitors understand the collection in its historical and artistic context.
The collection houses the sword of Saint Maurice, a significant Savoy family relic found nowhere else. Equally striking are weapons that once belonged to Napoleon and Italian monarchs, preserved within these walls.
