Monument to Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, 2nd Duke of Aosta, Bronze monument in Piazza Castello, Turin, Italy.
The Monument to Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy features a central statue of the Duke surrounded by eight military figures arranged around two lateral cubic strongholds. The entire composition sits on a rectangular base and stands behind Palazzo Madama in Piazza Castello.
The monument was inaugurated in 1937 to honor the Marshal who led the Third Army during World War I. Its construction took place during a period when the fascist regime actively promoted military monuments and war heroes.
The bronze sculptures show soldiers in different uniforms and poses, representing the variety of military forces that fought in World War I. Visitors can observe these details and notice how each figure displays distinct characteristics of the troops that served.
The monument is located on Piazza Castello behind Palazzo Madama and can be easily viewed from outside. The best vantage point is from the front, where you can see the central statue and surrounding figures clearly.
The central bronze statue was cast using metal from four captured enemy cannons, merging actual war materials with the memorial. This unusual choice of materials makes it one of the few places where enemy weaponry was directly transformed into a work of art.
