Santuario della SS. Trinità

The Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity sits beneath a large rocky cliff and contains a chapel with stone walls and religious artwork. The church is located at high mountain elevation and is surrounded by forests and steep rock faces.

The sanctuary began in the 11th century when a fresco appeared on cave walls, taking the place of an older temple dedicated to water worship. This transformation shows how religions created new meaning at places where reverence had already occurred.

The sanctuary draws visitors from across the region who come to pray and feel connected to the surrounding nature. The Byzantine fresco on the wall reflects religious artistic traditions that have been revered by pilgrims for centuries.

Access is available via paved roads from town or unpaved forest trails through old beech woods, with both routes being demanding. It is wise to check ahead on trail conditions and wear appropriate footwear depending on the season.

Beneath the main altar, spring water flows from an underground river that has supplied the site for thousands of years. This continuing element links the present chapel to far older traditions at the same location.
