The palace features three floors with a central structure flanked by north-facing wings, creating an expansive courtyard in the Mannerist architectural style.
Giorgio III Santacroce commissioned the construction of Palazzo Altieri between 1578 and 1585, with later modifications by architect Carlo Fontana in the 18th century.
The Galleria dei Papi displays 268 papal portraits from Saint Peter onward, including works influenced by Renaissance masters Raphael, Titian, and Caravaggio.
Visitors can explore fourteen rooms arranged around the Salone degli Avi, with daily access from 8:30 to 19:30 and tickets priced at 5 euros.
The palace contains the only complete chronological series of papal portraits in existence, displayed in a specific pattern from top right to bottom left.
