Palazzo Altieri, Palace and art museum in Oriolo Romano, Italy.

Palazzo Altieri in Oriolo Romano is a manor house in Mannerist style with three floors and a central structure, flanked by wings facing north. The layout frames a large inner courtyard and displays the typical geometric proportions of this architectural period.

Giorgio III Santacroce commissioned the building between 1578 and 1585, shaping the Renaissance architecture of the region. Architect Carlo Fontana made significant alterations to it later in the 18th century.

The papal portrait gallery shows how artists across different periods depicted the leaders of the Church. The works come from known masters and reveal artistic trends that developed over many centuries.

You can visit fourteen rooms arranged around the large Salone degli Avi. Plan enough time to explore the spaces and the art collection at a comfortable pace.

The building houses the only complete chronological collection of papal portraits in the world. The works are arranged in a special pattern that runs from top right to bottom left.
