Piccolomini Tower, Medieval tower in Pescina, Italy
The Piccolomini Tower features solid stone walls, narrow defensive windows, and a rectangular base structure rising prominently above the town of Pescina.
The tower construction began in 1232 as part of the military fortifications designed to protect the region during the turbulent period of Italian city-states.
Regular exhibitions inside the tower present documents and artifacts that tell the story of medieval defense systems in the Abruzzo region.
Visitors can access the tower entrance through Via Aurelia, with guided tours available from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
The tower stands as one of the few remaining medieval structures that survived the devastating earthquake of 1915 in the Marsica region.
