San Giuseppe da Copertino

San Giuseppe da Copertino is a Romanesque basilica in Osimo featuring a Latin cross layout with a projecting apse and a square bell tower positioned on the left. The interior shows a clear design meant to accommodate pilgrims and visitors who come to pay their respects.

The church was originally dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi in 1234 and took its current name in 1767 following the canonization of Saint Joseph of Copertino. This change reflected the growing importance of pilgrimage to honor the newly recognized saint.

The basilica is dedicated to Saint Joseph of Cupertino, whose veneration connects to stories of his levitation experiences. Visitors come here to honor this saint, who holds special significance for students and those in aviation.

Access to the basilica is through Piazza Boccolino in central Osimo, near the A14 Ancona highway exit. The church welcomes visitors daily and sits at a central location that is also walkable from other points in town.

A crypt was built in 1963 holding a bronze and crystal urn containing the remains of Saint Joseph. This modern addition to the church draws numerous pilgrims from different parts seeking connection with the saint.
