Castello di Baratuli, Castle on Mount Oladiri, Monastir, Italy.

Castello di Baratuli is a fortification on Mount Oladiri featuring a hexagonal design with an interior courtyard. The site contains a central water cistern and storage rooms, commanding views across the valleys surrounding Monastir.

The fortification was built in the mid-1100s by the Donoratico counts to control the southern Campidano region. Pisan forces destroyed it in 1308, and it was never fully reconstructed afterward.

The fortification displays building elements from multiple eras, spanning from Nuragic times through the medieval period. Visitors can observe these different layers directly in the structure's design and layout.

A daytime visit works best since the site is outdoors with paths ascending the hillside. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven ground throughout the ruins.

Excavations beneath the medieval fortification uncovered remains of an earlier Nuragic settlement underneath. This discovery reveals the location was inhabited for thousands of years before the castle was built.
