Cave di Pila, Historic quarry site in Villamontagna, Trento, Italy.

The Cave di Pila functions as an open-air amphitheater surrounded by natural limestone walls at Via per Pila in northeastern Trento.

The quarry, opened in 1830 by Paolo Redi, supplied gray and red limestone for the construction of Trento's buildings throughout the Renaissance period.

The extraction site produced three distinct types of stone known as Rosso Moro, Ziresol, and Verdello, which were used in many churches and palaces.

Visitors can access the location through public transportation, with Line 9 stopping at Villamontagna Michei and Line 6 at Grotta Piazza station.

The limestone extracted from Cave di Pila earned recognition when used in Trento's historic center renovation, winning the European Urban Design Prize in 1995.
