Villa comunale, Urban park in L'Aquila, Italy
The Villa Comunale extends over 12,600 square meters of green space in the southern part of L'Aquila's historic center, featuring gardens and walking paths.
The area remained largely undeveloped until the 19th century, except for the construction of San Michele monastery in 1610 and Porta San Ferdinando in 1820.
The central monument to fallen soldiers, designed by Nicola D'Antino in 1926, stands as a focal point within the gardens, aligned with the semicircular Emiciclo square.
The park boundaries include Viale Luigi Rendina, Viale Francesco Crispi, Viale Collemaggio, and Via Michele Iacobucci, with multiple entry points for visitors.
The Gran Sasso Science Institute now occupies several historical buildings around the park, including the former GIL Palace and Casa della Giovane Italiana.
