Museo pontificio della Santa Casa

The Museo pontificio della Santa Casa is housed in the upper floors of the western section of the Apostolic Palace and displays religious artworks spanning several centuries. The collection includes paintings, tapestries, and furnishings that document the artistic evolution of this holy site.

The collection took shape during the 19th century renovation of the Basilica, when artworks and furnishings were gathered for safekeeping. This effort shaped the development of the holy complex in modern times.

The Lorenzo Lotto room displays seven paintings arranged as the artist originally designed them for the Basilica choir. The space shows how this collection once served as part of the religious experience for those who visited.

The museum is located in the upper areas of the western building section and is easily accessed through the internal entrances of the complex. Visiting requires appropriate attire and time to view the extensive collection.

Ten tapestries in the collection are based on Raffael's designs and tell stories from the New Testament with intricate details. These tapestries rank among the most valuable objects and showcase the craftsmanship of past centuries.
