Castello della Smilea, Medieval castle and cultural center in Montale, Italy.

The Castello della Smilea features two tall towers rising from a square building with Gothic arches decorating the exterior walls.

The Panciatichi family lost control of the castle in 1466 when Florentines seized it following a conspiracy against Piero di Cosimo dei Medici.

The castle houses a permanent exhibition of works by sculptor Jorio Vivarelli, along with a municipal library and historical archives.

The castle stands at Via Martiri della Libertà 109 in Montale, hosting regular cultural events and temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

The name Smilea derives from 'sex milia', indicating its distance of six miles from the city of Pistoia.
