The church features a neoclassical facade with prominent columns, a baroque crown, and a raised presbytery behind its single nave interior layout.
The church received its consecration in 1145 by Bishop Altemanno, with dedications to Jesus Christ, the Holy Virgin Mary, and Saint Michael Archangel.
The religious building stands as part of a former monastery complex that now houses the San Michele all'Adige Agricultural Institute since 1874.
Access to the church requires climbing a staircase that leads to a large churchyard supported by porphyry walls.
Following a devastating fire in 1267, monks sold their possessions to gather funds for the reconstruction of the entire complex.
