San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo, also called the Duomo di Abano Terme, is a church with a stone facade designed in Romanesque Revival style. The building features a prominent bell tower and sits at the center of the town.

The cathedral was built in 1780 and replaced an earlier religious building that once stood on the same spot. Cangrande della Scala had destroyed that previous structure during a military campaign in the region.

The bell tower displays construction details from multiple centuries, added by local builders over time. Walking around it, you can spot the different styles and materials that show how the structure grew across generations.

The church is located in the heart of Abano Terme and is easily reached on foot from anywhere in town. Keep in mind that religious services happen regularly, so visiting outside service times helps you explore at your own pace.

While the town's thermal springs reach temperatures around 80 degrees Celsius, this church remains a cool refuge in the middle of the spa area. The contrast between the steaming hot springs and this quiet stone structure is quite striking.
