Fountain of Cupid, Garden fountain in Villa Pamphili, Rome, Italy
The Fountain of Cupid sits within Villa Pamphili as a marble sculpture displaying classical figures and flowing water features. The structure combines white stone carvings with active water jets positioned throughout the garden spaces.
Andrea Busiri Vici designed this fountain in the 1800s as part of the Villa Pamphili's architectural expansion. This work represented a significant addition to the garden's development during the nineteenth century.
The fountain draws on Roman mythology to express themes of love, reflecting how Italian villas traditionally used mythological characters in their water features. Visitors walking through the park encounter this visual tradition as a natural part of the garden's design.
You can reach the fountain through Villa Pamphili's main entrance, which opens from sunrise to sunset with free access to the grounds. The pathways through the garden are easy to walk and lead directly to the sculpture.
The fountain's water jets create shifting patterns throughout the day as natural light changes, making the sculpture appear different at different times. This ever-changing display means visitors who return at different hours see distinct visual effects.
