Palace of autonomous region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Administrative headquarters in Trento, Italy.
The Palace of the autonomous region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol is a public administrative building in the center of Trento, designed by architect Adalberto Libera and completed in 1962. It rises several stories with clean geometric lines, large windows, and a sober facade that reflects Italian post-war architecture.
The building was commissioned in the 1950s when the region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol received its autonomous status and needed a dedicated administrative seat. Architect Adalberto Libera, known for his rationalist designs, led the project through to its completion in 1962.
The building houses the administration of a region where Italian, German, and Ladin are all official languages, and this trilingualism shows up in signs and documents throughout the interior. Visitors who enter can immediately notice this linguistic variety, which reflects daily life across the region.
The building sits near Piazza Dante, one of the central squares of Trento, and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. Some areas are only open to staff, but the entrance hall is generally accessible during office hours.
Adalberto Libera is best known for the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome, but this building in Trento is among his last major public projects. It stands as one of the few examples of his late style outside the capital.
