Torre Verde

Torre Verde is a medieval defensive tower in Trento topped with a distinctive green conical roof that marks the northern boundary of the old town. The structure rises prominently above the surrounding streets, its position making it clearly visible from multiple locations within the historical center.

The tower was first recorded in 1197 as part of Trento's medieval defensive system. Its distinctive green roof was added in a later renovation campaign, being refined into its current shape in 1506.

The tower is one of five medieval towers that once defined Trento's defensive strategy and urban identity. Its distinctive green roof remains a visual landmark that locals and visitors use to orient themselves within the old town.

The tower is closed to interior visits, but its external features are fully visible and photographable from the surrounding streets and public areas. The best light for viewing and photographing the distinctive roof occurs during early morning or late afternoon hours.

The tower's foundation contains stone blocks that suggest Roman or pre-Roman origins, indicating the site may have served a defensive purpose long before its medieval reconstruction. This archaeological hint reveals layers of occupation across different historical periods.
