San Nicola, Minor basilica and parish church in Trapani, Italy.
The basilica stands with vertical ribbing on its facade and features an entrance portal framed by columns mounted on elevated plinths.
The original structure dates back to 536 when Belisarius, under Emperor Justinian's reign, constructed it as a Greek Christian church dedicated to the Ascension.
The Chiaramonte family modified and restored the basilica in the 14th century, dedicating it to Saint Nicholas before granting it to the city.
The church contains eleven altars, a baptistery with an African granite baptismal font, and a dome with hexagonal cells for visitors to observe.
On April 5, 1564, the church temporarily housed the original statue of the Madonna of Trapani to protect it from pirate raids.
