Castello Rufo Ruffo is a medieval fortress in Scaletta Zanclea that sits on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. The structure features stone walls with a trapezoidal shape and narrow windows that frame views of the sea and surrounding hills.

This defensive structure was built in the 13th century to protect the coast from pirate raids and became a key stronghold for the region. It was modified several times over the following centuries as military needs changed and new technologies emerged.

The building was home to the Ruffo family for centuries and remains central to the town's identity. The rooms display objects and spaces that show how people lived across generations in this coastal settlement.

The site is best explored on foot, and access is gained via a steep path rising from the village to the entrance. Sturdy shoes are recommended, as some of the interior passages are narrow and the stone surfaces uneven.

The castle contains an ethno-anthropological collection displaying ancient weapons and traditional crafts used by residents over many generations. These objects reveal the practical skills and tools that were essential for living in this coastal settlement.
