The Basilica Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Anthony is a minor basilica on via Santa Cecilia in Messina, built in an eclectic style to a design by engineer Letterio Savoja. Its exterior facades are clad in Melilli stone, with bronze statues of Saints Luke and Matthew by Sindoni in the niches beside the entrance and reliefs on the pediments, including the Sacred Heart, by Giuseppe D'Arrigo. Inside, the nave ceilings are painted in framed panels by Rosario Spagnoli, and a Ruffatti pipe organ of 1962 with 20 registers stands on the high choir gallery opposite the entrance.

Construction began in 1921 under architect Letterio Savoja's guidance, establishing a new religious center for the city. This project emerged during the period of urban rebuilding that followed the devastating earthquake of 1908.

The church is the world's first dedicated to praying for vocations, hence its title Tempio della Rogazione Evangelica. Its devotion to St Anthony began in 1887 with the "Pane di Sant'Antonio", started after Susanna Consiglio widow Miceli vowed money for the orphans' bread during a cholera epidemic and was spared with her children.

The basilica stands on via Santa Cecilia, on the site of the old Avignone quarter where Annibale Maria Di Francia began his work in 1878. The crypt holds the founder's body, and the adjoining museum, opened in 2000, displays a half-scale model of the Avignone quarter and the room of the saint. Look for the 1962 Ruffatti pipe organ, with 20 registers on two manuals and pedal, on the high choir gallery opposite the entrance.

The church is the first in the world dedicated to prayer for vocations, following Jesus's command to pray for labourers for the harvest; it is also a shrine to St Anthony, tied to the "Pane di Sant'Antonio" devotion begun in 1887. In the annexed museum, a half-scale model reconstructs the Avignone district, including the three alleys and the room where St Annibale lived after 1908.
