Santa Caterina di Valverde, Neoclassical church in Messina, Italy
The Santa Caterina di Valverde church features a portico with five steps, Ionic columns, and a triangular pediment on its facade.
Originally connected to a 13th-century monastery founded by a Cyprus queen, the current structure was built between 1926 and 1932.
The church celebrates Saint Catherine of Alexandria every November 25th with local processions and community gatherings.
The church contains a 1939 Tamburini electric organ with 1142 pipes that accompanies religious services throughout the year.
A stone inscription inside the church indicates it was consecrated to Saint Catherine on an ancient temple dedicated to Venus.
