Castello di Magnano, Medieval castle in Carpaneto Piacentino, Italy.
Castello di Magnano is a medieval fortress standing at 350 meters altitude on a hilltop, featuring two distinct towers and an irregular trapezoidal layout. The structure sits within the Piacenziano nature reserve and is surrounded by cherry trees and vineyards.
The fortress was first documented in 1288, then passed to the Scotti family in 1460 for 270 gold ducats. The family maintained control until the late 1700s.
The fortress reflects the rare enclosed-castle style found in the Piacenza region, marked by Guelph-style battlements and paired arch windows that define its appearance.
The site offers mountain bikes, table tennis facilities, garden seating, and parking areas. Several trattorias near the entrance serve regional dishes and local food.
The inner courtyard holds a medieval garden in the hortus conclusus style, enclosed by cherry trees and vineyard plots. This sheltered garden overlooks the Chero valley below.
