Saint John the Baptist church

Saint John the Baptist church is a ruined structure on a hiking trail with views over Lake Garda in the northern Italian landscape. The crumbling building sits on elevated ground and offers wide views across mountains and water from its location.

The structure developed from early Christian building traditions in the region. A nearby fortification was built between 1507 and 1509 and shaped the historical character of the location.

The church location forms part of a spiritual heritage trail that includes the Santa Barbara Chapel, reflecting the religious practices of northern Italian communities.

The trail reaches the site via path 404 from central Riva del Garda. Parking areas are available near the trailhead.

The ruins sit near a hydroelectric facility with an underground water tunnel running beneath the area. This industrial infrastructure creates an unexpected connection with the religious site in the mountain landscape.
