Bastione

Bastione is a 16th-century fortress situated roughly 200 meters above Lake Garda, constructed with thick stone walls and rectangular defensive structures. The complex overlooks the lake waters and the surrounding mountainous terrain.

The fortress was built in 1508 under Venetian control and functioned as a military post protecting against attacks from both land and water routes. It played a crucial defensive role in the region during that period.

The fortress reflects northern Italian military design, blending Venetian and Austrian defensive approaches from the Renaissance era. Visitors can observe this mixture in the stonework and structural layout when walking through the complex.

The fortress can be reached via a walking path from Riva del Garda's center, or you can take the newer panoramic lift for easier access. The route offers a moderate climb with rewarding views along the way.

The fortress contains an advanced astronomical observation station that allows scientists to study celestial movements across the night skies above Lake Garda. This scientific installation often goes unnoticed by casual visitors.
