Rocca Malatestiana di Montecolombo

The Rocca Malatestiana is a medieval fortress standing on a hill with two prominent towers and a central courtyard. The structure overlooks the Conca Valley and contains various rooms displaying defensive architecture and exhibition spaces.

The fortress was built in the 13th century when the Malatesta family took control of the Rimini region. The structure was expanded and modified over time to meet changing military needs.

The ceramic collection in the Male Tower shows craftsmanship techniques that have been practiced in the region for centuries. Visitors can see how these works are part of local identity and continue to influence artisans today.

Access to the fortress is well marked and visitors can explore the grounds on designated paths. It is advisable to wear comfortable footwear as the hill is steep and some areas require climbing stairs.

The foundation stones of the fortress contain Roman materials, revealing that the site held strategic value long before the medieval period. This visible layering shows how different eras built upon one another.
