Predas Rujas Waterfalls, cascate della Sardegna
Predas Rujas Waterfalls are a series of cascades fed by mountain streams that flow over smooth rocks and create small pools below. The setting includes forests and rocky hills typical of the Montiferru area, with Mediterranean vegetation surrounding the water features.
The waterfalls are part of a natural landscape that has remained in the region for centuries. Historically, the streams fed by these falls were used by local people for irrigation and daily needs before modern water systems were developed.
The name refers to the red rocks that characterize the landscape in this part of Sardinia. Locals and visitors use this place as a spot to connect with nature and experience the genuine character of the countryside.
Access is from the town of Santu Lussurgiu, with the final stretch potentially requiring a sturdy vehicle on dirt roads. The walking path from the nearest parking takes about 3.5 km (2 miles) over mountain trails, so visitors should bring water and snacks and wear proper hiking shoes.
The nearby Bausinari spring feeds the system and local stories speak of healing properties, though these are more legend than fact. Many visitors also encounter interesting rock formations and note the small pools that form at the base of the falls.
