Jordan–Saudi Arabia border

Jordan–Saudi Arabia border, International border between Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The Jordan–Saudi Arabia border runs approximately 730 kilometers from the Gulf of Aqaba in the southwest to the point where it meets Iraq in the northeast. The boundary consists of nine straight sections marked by stone pillars and geographic features across the desert landscape.

The border was established in 1925 through the Treaty of Hadda between Britain and Ibn Saud, which set the initial straight lines dividing the territories. Additional boundary sections were added over time as administrative arrangements evolved during the British mandate period.

The border region reflects how nomadic communities historically moved across these lands, with boundary lines adjusted to respect traditional migration routes. This arrangement shaped how people on both sides understood their connection to the area around them.

Three official crossing points allow movement between the two countries: Umari in the north, Mudawwara in the central area, and Durra toward the south. Expect security checks and document verification at these locations, with wait times varying by season and traffic.

The northern section contains a small concave dent in the otherwise straight boundary line, locally known as Winston's Hiccup from the British administration era. This unusual feature breaks the pattern of the regular geometric lines that define the rest of the border.
