Shirokane-takanawa Station, Underground metro station in Takanawa, Tokyo, Japan
Shirokane-takanawa is an underground metro station in Takanawa, in the south of Tokyo, where the Mita Line and the Namboku Line both stop. It sits on the third basement level and has two island platforms serving four tracks in total.
The station opened in September 2000 to serve both the Mita and Namboku lines from the start. When the Teito Rapid Transit Authority was privatized in 2004, the Namboku Line passed to Tokyo Metro.
The station sits in Takanawa, a residential part of southern Tokyo known for its low-key streets and proximity to several embassy buildings. The area around the northern exits draws people heading toward the Meguro River and the small shops along its banks.
The station has several exits leading to different parts of Takanawa, with signs in both Japanese and English to help with orientation. Escalators and elevators connect street level to the platforms, making the station accessible for all travelers.
A connecting area on the first basement level allows passengers to transfer between the Mita and Namboku lines without passing through extra ticket gates. This layout is not immediately obvious on a first visit but saves time once you know where to look.
