Sapporo Satoland, Agricultural theme park in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Japan.
Sapporo Satoland is an agricultural park in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, with vegetable fields, animal farms, flower gardens, and open lawns across its grounds. The site also has barbecue areas and a miniature steam train that runs through the property, connecting the different sections.
The park opened in 1995 with the aim of bringing farming closer to people living in Sapporo, where most residents have little contact with agriculture. From the start, it was designed as a place where practical learning and outdoor leisure could happen side by side.
The park shows how farming in Hokkaido looks in practice, with real fields, working animals, and seasonal crops that change through the year. Visitors can take part in harvests and hands-on activities that reflect how rural communities in this region have long related to the land.
The park is worth visiting at any season, though the grounds are most active between June and November when harvests and outdoor farming activities are in full swing. The site covers a lot of ground, so riding the miniature steam train is a practical way to move between areas without getting tired.
In winter, parts of the grounds are converted for snow activities while farm education programs continue inside heated buildings. This means a visitor can experience both farmwork and snow play on the same day without leaving the site.
