Moka

Located 100 kilometers from Tokyo and 15 kilometers from Utsunomiya, Mooka spans 167 square kilometers with a population of 78,720 residents distributed across 30,203 households.

During the Edo Period, the area was under direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and daimyo Okubo Tadazane worked with Ninomiya Sontoku to develop the land.

The city maintains the tradition of Mooka-momen cotton weaving, with multiple shops downtown offering products made from this locally produced textile.

Visitors can reach Mooka via the JR Utsunomiya Line from Tokyo to Oyama, followed by the JR Mito Line to Shimodate, where connections to the Mooka Line are available.

The Mooka Railway operates steam locomotives on weekends, featuring a station designed to resemble a giant locomotive and housing the SL Train Museum.
