大前神社

大前神社 is a Shinto shrine in Mooka featuring a main hall, offering hall, and worship hall decorated with intricate wooden carvings and traditional architectural elements. The building employs the Ishi-no-ma-zukuri style and holds status as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

The shrine was founded between 767 and 770 and gained prominence when military commander Taira no Masakado sought blessings there for his battles. This early association with an influential historical figure shaped how the place was perceived for centuries.

The shrine serves as a living center where visitors witness traditional offerings and communal rituals that shape local life. Ceremonies here connect everyday concerns like safety and prosperity to ancient practices passed down through generations.

The shrine is roughly a 15-minute walk from Kita-Mooka Station and is easily reached on foot. Ample parking is available on-site, and visitors should come during regular hours to experience ceremonies and the shrine in full activity.

The shrine houses one of the country's largest Ebisu deity statues, visible from the entrance. It was also among the first to emphasize blessings for motorcycle riders and traffic safety.
