Ageo

The city extends across 45.51 square kilometers of the Kanto Plain, situated between the Ara River and the Ayase River at 14 meters elevation.

Established in 1889 as a post town, Ageo developed into a major station on the Nakasendo highway connecting Tokyo with Maebashi during the Edo period.

The city maintains strong agricultural traditions through the cultivation of pears, grapes, kiwis, and vegetables, despite increasing urbanization.

The JR East Takasaki Line serves the city through Ageo and Kita-Ageo stations, while National Routes 16 and 17 provide road connections.

The population density reaches 5,100 persons per square kilometer, with 230,041 residents distributed across 107,555 households as of February 2024.
