Kama, Administrative city in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan
Kama is a city in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, situated in the central part of the region. The Onga River runs through the area and the Chikushi Mountains rise along the southern edge.
The city came into being on March 27, 2006, when Yamada merged with the towns of Kaho, Usui and Inazuki. During the Meiji period the area was known for coal mining.
The municipality maintains eight elementary schools, five junior high schools, and two high schools, demonstrating its commitment to education and community development.
The city is served by JR Kyushu's Gotōji Line and sits close to the Kyushu Expressway and the Higashikyushu Expressway. Local roads connect different neighborhoods and the surrounding region.
After the closure of the mines the area experienced economic change and developed new industries. The population shifted over the years as a result.
