Fukaya, Industrial city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan

Fukaya stretches between the Ara and Tone rivers in northern Saitama Prefecture, covering 138 square kilometers with a population of 229,517 residents.

The city evolved from a castle site built by the Uesugi clan in 1456 and later became an essential post town on the Nakasendo highway during the Edo period.

The Memorial Museum showcases the legacy of Shibusawa Eiichi, while seasonal festivals maintain connections between residents through traditional celebrations and community gatherings.

Travelers reach Fukaya through JR East Takasaki Line and Chichibu Railway, with multiple stations providing direct connections to Tokyo and neighboring municipalities.

Fukaya produces special welsh onions, known as Fukaya-negi, which represent a major agricultural product cultivated in the fertile lands between two rivers.
