Fukaya, Industrial city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan

Fukaya sits in northern Saitama Prefecture, spreading across the flatlands between the Ara and Tone rivers. The built-up area includes several neighborhoods and suburbs arranged around a central business district where municipal buildings, shops, and public facilities cluster together.

The settlement grew around a castle site built by the Uesugi clan during the 15th century. During the Edo period, the location developed into an important post station along the Nakasendo trade route, carrying travelers and goods between Edo and Kyoto.

The Memorial Museum showcases the legacy of Shibusawa Eiichi, while seasonal festivals maintain connections between residents through traditional celebrations and community gatherings.

The municipality connects through the JR Takasaki Line and Chichibu Railway, which stop at several stations within the urban area. Buses link the railway stops to residential districts, allowing visitors to move across the wider region.

The land between the two rivers provides fertile soil for growing spring onions, a crop cultivated here for generations. Local farmers maintain special varieties known for their mild taste and length.
