Katsuyama, Mountain city in Fukui Prefecture, Japan

The city spreads across 253 square kilometers of mountainous terrain in northern Fukui Prefecture, with a population density of 93 persons per square kilometer.

Katsuyama emerged as an official city on September 1, 1954, through the consolidation of multiple villages in the region of ancient Echizen Province.

The local textile industry maintains traditional silk production methods, supporting artisans who create fabrics using techniques passed down through generations.

The Echizen Railway Katsuyama Eiheiji Line connects the city to major transportation hubs, while local buses provide access to primary attractions.

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum houses forty complete dinosaur skeletons and receives more than 700,000 visitors each year.
