Tamano

Tamano extends along the Seto Inland Sea coast, occupying 103 square kilometers with a population of 55,889 residents as of October 2022.

The region transformed from a small fishing village during the Tokugawa period into an industrial center following the establishment of Uno port in the early 1900s.

Traditional fishing practices and maritime activities remain central to the local identity, with residents maintaining connections to both land and sea traditions.

The JR Uno Line connects the city to Okayama, while the local harbor provides ferry services to Takamatsu and various islands in the Seto Inland Sea.

Mitsui Engineering operates one of Japan's largest shipbuilding facilities in Tamano, contributing significantly to the national maritime industry.
