Uonuma

Uonuma is a city in south-central Niigata that spreads across mountainous inland terrain. It borders Fukushima and Gunma Prefectures and sits in a central location connecting different mountain regions.

The name Uonuma first appears in historical records from 702, showing the region's long settlement history. During the Edo period, the area came under direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate, which shaped it for centuries.

The Dai no Ban Bon Odori festival and international snowball competition bring the community together at different times of year. These events show how local people keep traditions alive and celebrate together with neighbors and visitors.

The city has several schools and connects to other regions through two railway lines. Public transportation and infrastructure allow visitors to explore the area easily and reach different locations.

The area is known for growing premium koshihikari rice in its fertile fields. Additionally, the Okutadami Dam and Ginzandaira plateau offer outdoor activities year-round.
